Final Destination Summerland

On 2nd August 1973, many people who entered Summerland would have had one of these little yellow tickets in their hands. The ticket offered great value. I imagine for some, their holiday was almost over and they went to Summerland that evening determined to get the most from it.  The fact is, Summerland was unique, it was wonderful in fact; the memory of happy times spent there would have to last a lot of holidaymakers another year. In the long, cold, dark nights of Winter - when it seemed like Spring would never come, the memories of Summerland and a fantastic holiday on the Isle of Man, would keep them going. I'm certain that many planned to come back the following year; but for fifty poor souls, Summerland was to be their final destination. Their little yellow card would be a ticket to tragedy.

Remembering the fifty people who perished in the Summerland fire, 42 years ago today, and all those for whom the suffering continues.

 Forever in our hearts 🌻
